Since their introduction in 1986, the obverse design of the American Silver Eagle coins has featured Adolph Wienman’s “Walking Liberty” design.  Lady Liberty is passing through an open field with the morning sun appearing.  She is dressed in a traditional toga while holding a bundle of oak and olive branches while the other arm is held out as a gesture of welcome. In 2021 the reverse design changed to commemorate the 35th year of the American Eagle coins.  The original reverse design, seen at right, is the The design depicts a single eagle coming in for a landing, carrying an oak branch as if to add it to a nest. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR.” AIP designer Emily Damstra created the design, which was sculpted by Mint Medallic Artist Michael Gaudioso.
